On July 26-28, 2018, the second International Deep Water Oil and Gas Engineering Frontier Technology Seminar and International Hydrate Youth Forum were held at China University of Petroleum (East China). More than 400 representatives from 83 units from 8 countries including China, the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Singapore, and Australia attended the meeting.
The conference invited John Ripmeester, Bahman Tohidi, Wu Nenyou, Dendy Sloan, and Praveen Linga, the chairpersons of the 6th to 10th International Hydrate Conference, to attend.
Yao Jun, Vice President of China University of Petroleum (East China), Jon Olson, Director of the Department of Petroleum and Earth Systems at the University of Texas at Austin, and Wang Chongjiang, Vice Chairman of the Qingdao Association for Science and Technology, attended the meeting and delivered opening speeches. Yao Jun welcomed the arrival of the attendees and looked forward to showcasing the latest research results on deepwater oil and gas and hydrates at the conference. He hoped that the convening of the conference would play a good role in promoting the discipline construction and talent cultivation of our school. Jon Olson introduces the situation of jointly building a joint laboratory for international cooperation in petroleum energy with our school. Wang Chongjiang stated that the convening of the meeting is of great significance in enhancing and promoting Qingdao's understanding of the development of deepwater oil and gas and hydrate resources.
The keynote speech was presided over by Academician Sun Jinsheng, Chairman of the Academic Committee of the conference. Professor Dendy Sloan, an internationally renowned hydrate expert and professor at the University of Colorado, USA, delivered a keynote speech titled "Change the World Hydrates, Brian Development and Creativity." He analyzed the challenges faced by hydrate research and the patterns of brain development, pointed out the sources of creativity, and encouraged young scholars to strengthen communication and cooperation, making creative work, Using hydrate research to change the world. Dr. John Ripmeester, a member of the Canadian Academy of Sciences and responsible researcher at the National Academy of Sciences, delivered a keynote speech titled "Clathrate Hydrates the Importance of Fundamental Research", emphasizing the importance of fundamental research through the discovery of H-type hydrate structures and the application of nuclear magnetic resonance.
Professor Wang Hongbin from the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey, Zhao Jiafei from Dalian University of Technology, Masayuki Hyodo from Yamaguchi University in Japan, Bahman Tohidi from Herry Watt University in the UK, Associate Professor Praveen Linga from the National University of Singapore, Li Shuxia from China University of Petroleum (East China), and Wang Zhiyuan respectively delivered speeches on their respective research fields.
The meeting was co sponsored by the China University of Petroleum (East China), the University of Texas at Austin, the Joint Laboratory for International Cooperation in Petroleum Energy and the Qingdao Science and Technology Association, and undertaken by the Institute of Marine Oil Gas and Hydrate of the School of petroleum engineering of China University of Petroleum (East China) and the Key Laboratory of Marine Energy Utilization and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Education of Dalian University of Technology. The conference held 9 thematic reports and 55 thematic reports, with representatives exchanging and discussing cutting-edge technologies and basic theoretical issues related to the development of deepwater oil and gas and hydrates. The conference showcased the latest achievements and development directions in deepwater oil and gas engineering and hydrate research. The convening of this meeting is of great significance for enhancing the international academic influence of our university in the field of hydrate research.

From November 11th to 12th, 2019, the 3rd International Symposium on Frontier Technologies of Deepwater Oil and Gas Engineering and the 2nd International Hydrate Youth Forum were held at our school. More than 160 representatives from 5 countries including China, Norway, the United States, Russia, and Singapore attended the meeting.
Experts in the field of deepwater oil and gas, Ove Tobias Gudmestad, Vladimir Balitskiy, Hon Chung Lau, and Michael Boon Ing Si, were specially invited to attend the meeting.

Professor Michael Boon Ing Si from the National University of Singapore presented a conference report titled "Journal from" Select "to" Execute "of Deepwater Platform Concepts for Oil&Gas Development, introducing the types and challenges of deepwater platforms in the process of deepwater oil and gas development. On December 20-21, 2021, the 4th International Deep Water Oil and Gas Engineering Frontier Technology Seminar and the 3rd International Hydrate Youth Forum, which lasted for 2 days, came to an end. 225 experts and scholars from 10 countries, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, Norway, and Singapore, presented thematic reports to study and discuss international deepwater oil and gas engineering and cutting-edge technologies for hydrates.
The meeting was jointly organized by China University of Petroleum (East China) and China Petroleum Engineering Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd., with representatives from 45 domestic and foreign units participating in the online and offline meetings. The conference focused on cutting-edge fields such as drilling and production of natural gas hydrates in the South China Sea, carbon dioxide storage, deep-water drilling and completion, oil and gas flow assurance, and new technologies for hydrates. 17 conference reports and 77 special reports were held.
"The South China Sea has a huge amount of natural gas hydrate resources, which is an important potential efficient and clean oil and gas replacement resource in China." Sun Jinsheng, an academician of the CAE Member, explained the significance of hydrate development, problems in drilling and production, and key scientific issues. He pointed out that the development of natural gas hydrates in the South China Sea still faces a series of major challenges, and it is necessary to continue to tackle basic theories and methods, and continuously break through key technologies and equipment.
Professors Sun Baojiang, Wang Zhiyuan, and Dong Changyin from China University of Petroleum (East China) respectively introduced the latest deep water drilling well control technology, hydrate prevention and control technology in deep water gas well testing, and sand production prevention and control technology for muddy silt type hydrate reservoirs. Other experts and scholars have also shared their views on cutting-edge fields and basic theoretical issues such as deepwater drilling and completion, hydrate exploration and development, flow guarantee, and new technologies for hydrates, triggering discussions and exchanges among attendees, deepening scientific and technological cooperation, exchange, and development innovation between China and major energy countries in deepwater oil and gas engineering and hydrate research.
